a holiday celebration of our natural resources
There's no better time to appreciate the things that make the Northwest what it is.
SOIL
Soil is one of the most complex threads in the fabric of life. Whether it’s the organic duff beneath our forest floors or the inert bedrock that forms our majestic mountains, the Pacific Northwest is rich with soil variety. Call it dirt if you want, but understanding our soils is key to sound planning for future generations.
WATER
Ordinary and extraordinary, water is essential for life. Almost 75% of the earth’s surface is covered by water. Our own cells are even 70% water by mass. Water is an excellent solvent because it stays liquid at earth’s temperatures and serves as a crucial medium for nearly all life-giving processes.
FORESTS
Trees? The Pacific Northwest has them aplenty. Our forests contain more evergreens than almost anywhere else in the United States. We boast about 25 native tree species, including the Western red cedar, which was sometimes referred to as the “tree of life” in northwest native culture.
WILDLIFE
The Pacific Northwest is home to over 140 mammal species, 470 freshwater and marine fishes, 341 birds, 25 amphibians, 21 reptiles and over 20,000 invertebrates, including more than 2,000 moths and butterflies. Looking for a partridge for that pear tree? Yup, we’ve got that too!
PEOPLE
At Landau Associates we know our most important resource is the employees and clients who help us do the work we do every day. So in this holiday season, we’d like to take this opportunity to say, thanks!
